I'm thrilled to have found another challenge to enter! This one is hosted by a facebook group, but this particular challenge is hosted by Gloria Allen.
This beautiful work of art by Ivan Laliashvili served as our inspiration:
I am not used to designing from an inspiration photo, so this was a real challenge for me. I tried to get an old world rustic feeling that I got from the style of the city, but then I also tried to channel the colors from the inspiration all while making it cohesive. This is what I created:
I dipped into my stash of recycled, fair-trade sari silk from Nepal, and I found this gorgeous purple-gray. I also used some black sari silk. The beads were strung on waxed linen cord. It was my first time working with waxed linen. I quite enjoyed it, though I very quickly realized that you should not tie a knot unless you are positive you want it there! It is nearly impossible to unknot! One strand is made with different colors of lava beads. They almost perfectly matched the colors in the piece. Another strand of this necklace contains purple wooden saucer beads, blue and green glass beads, and white DZI agate beads. The last strand is some sari silk tied around a chain. I am very happy with how this necklace turned out! It was difficult to photograph, but I hope I captured the feeling of the artwork well!
I am beyond excited to see the other entries tomorrow! You will be able to vote on my piece and the other pieces here. To view Gloria Allen's blog and links to the other blogs, click here.
Oh and I chose to call this piece 'Last Midnight.' Can you tell I saw Into the Woods this week? Ha!
Funny story about Into the Woods. My friend Taylor apparently hates musicals. Well, she went to see Into the Woods without knowing it was a musical. After the first song she was like, "Wait. What is going on here?" And then she was trapped for two more hours. Her rendition of the story was much funnier than mine. There are worse places to be trapped. I'd love to be trapped in a musical! The only places I ever get trapped in are houses full of cats (I'm incredibly allergic!)!
On that note, have a fabulous week! Please vote in the challenge =]
